Why screenshots are the most honest input

Most AI reply tools ask you to paste the message. That works for email you control and fails everywhere else: a thread someone forwarded as an image, a message in an app that will not let you select text, a client chat on your other phone, a Teams conversation you would rather not copy out. A screenshot is how people actually capture those. The tool’s job is to read it accurately, understand who said what, and answer the point that matters.

The common failure in this category, visible in App Store reviews of screenshot-reply keyboards, is the generic reply: the tool detects that a message exists and returns something that could answer any message. A good reply quotes the specific concern, commits to a specific thing, and matches the register of the thread. That requires reading, not detecting.

Two ways to do it in Kloven

From the share sheet

   Take the screenshot

   Capture the message. Include enough of the thread for context; the last two or three messages are usually enough.

   Tap Share on the screenshot and choose Kloven. The first time, tap More in the share row and enable it.

   Reply professionally, De-escalate, Say no politely, or Summarize. Kloven reads the message (OCR handles chat bubbles and email layouts), works out the sender and the ask, and drafts.

   Copy the reply and paste it into the conversation. If you want to change tone or length, open it in Kloven for one-tap adjustments. It also lands in your History.

From the keyboard, without leaving the conversation

   For example the client message in Teams you are about to answer.

   Switch to the Kloven keyboard and tap Screenshot

   Kloven’s photo picker opens. Pick the screenshot.

   Wait for the reply to come back to the keyboard

   Kloven reads the message and drafts a reply that fits the thread. It returns to the keyboard so you can insert it where you were typing.

   Insert and send yourself

   The keyboard inserts the text into the field. You still press send. Nothing is sent on your behalf.

What a good screenshot reply looks like

This is the second time the report is late. I need to know if we can rely on you for the board pack.

You’re right to raise it, and I’m sorry it slipped twice. The board pack is my priority: you’ll have the report by 10am Thursday, and I’ll send a short status note on Wednesday so there are no surprises.

Getting better replies from screenshots

• Include the question, not just the last line. If the ask is three messages up, capture it.
• Crop out unrelated chats. Multiple conversations in one image confuse any reader, human or otherwise.
• Pick the quick action that matches the situation. De-escalate for tension, Say no politely for a request you are declining, Reply professionally for the ordinary case.
• If you have information the screenshot lacks (a date, a reason), add it after the draft or say it by voice; Kloven works it into the reply.
• Read the result once. AI can misread a number in a low-resolution image. You are the last check before send.
