What voice to email is, and what it is not

Every iPhone can already turn speech into text. Hold the microphone key and you get words. The problem is what those words look like: one long paragraph, no subject line, “um” and “so basically” left in, the correction you made halfway through still sitting next to the thing you corrected. That is voice typing. It saves your thumbs and costs you an editing pass.

Voice to email is the step after that. The transcript is treated as raw material. Filler goes, self-corrections resolve to what you meant, the message gets a structure (greeting, point, ask, sign-off) and a subject line, and the tone is adjusted for who is receiving it. The output is something you would send as-is or with a one-word tweak.

The workflow, step by step

   Say it the way you would explain it to a colleague

   Do not dictate the email. Describe the situation: who it is for, what happened, what you need. “Email Sarah, the requirements are signed off on our side, we are waiting on her security team, I will follow up when we hear back.” Corrections are fine: “make that Thursday, scratch that, Friday.”

   Read the transcript before anything is drafted

   A good tool shows you the words it heard before it writes anything. This is where you catch a misheard name or number. In Kloven the transcript appears first and you choose between Polish as-is (fix grammar and fillers, keep your wording) and Draft a message (turn it into a proper email).

   Let the tool detect the intent and the channel

   “Email Sarah” is an email. “Text him” is an SMS. “Post in the Teams channel” is a Teams message. When intent detection works, you do not pick a template; the draft arrives in the right shape with a subject line if it is an email.

   Adjust tone with one tap, not a rewrite

   If the draft is too stiff, tap a softer tone. Too long, tap Shorter. The point of voice to email is to avoid a second draft, so the controls should be one tap, not another prompt.

   Copy or insert, then send from your own mail app

   Nothing should send on your behalf. Copy the result into Mail, Gmail or Outlook, or if you are already in the compose window, use the Kloven keyboard to draft from voice and insert it where the cursor is.
